TGH-48 Garage House
During our time together, we focused on finding answers to the variety of social, economic, and cultural questions, the garage poses today.
What program do we introduce to the current degraded state?
How should we treat history?
How do we incorporate the contemporary?
How do we respond to the location?
TGH-48 is one of Savin Sever’s more known works, a parking garage with a statement shape of two cylinders. While the program for a garage building is very simple, Sever created an upgrade of the typical idea in terms of function, as well as design. The basic volumes for the garage house are two partially overlapping cylinders. The structure of the building itself is visible from the facade. In the middle, the central part of the cylinders is the two-way road that leads cars to the parking spaces on the perimeter of the cylinders. The result is not just a garage house, but a monument, that not only serves its function but creates a unique space with a dynamic play of light.
